Pop culture is modern culture transmitted through mass media, like American Horror Story, and it’s aimed particularly at teenagers and young adults. It focuses on the aspects of the hottest trends, newest television shows, and most of all, celebrity news and headlines. Pop culture has a wide range of topics to focus on.
Teens today watch numerous amounts of television and new shows. They are figuratively glued to the television sometimes. New shows are taking over television - shows like Empire, Power, and American Horror Story. The last of those, AHS, is a mix of drama, horror, and thrill. The show has you on the edge of your seat wondering who’s going to die or what’s going to scare you.
Ms. Thomas expressed her opinion about the show and what she likes about it. Ms. Thomas said, “I like the anthology aspect, that each year there is a different story, but a similar theme and actors. There are not a lot of shows on television like that.” When asked about the suspense she responded, “It is interesting to watch a show that pushes the envelope. Whether you love it or hate it, everyone's always talking about what happened on the show. It starts a conversation.” Lady Gaga is an iconic pop culture figure who premiered her acting debut in American Horror Story. She sings, dances, and acts. She represents the LGBT… community as well and stands for equality. Ms. Thomas stated, “It was great to see Lady Gaga in a different light, as an actress. I didn’t watch all of the last season, but she was a very complicated character and I like that. I hate one-dimensional characters.” American Horror Story shined light on pop culture. It showed how they can tie in real life events and twist them up into freaky and horrific shows.
American Horror Story is a show that kind of starts and ends on its own time. They take real life stories and actual events that happen to people and they dramatize them by adding death, blood, and gore. Each season is better than the last they add new characters and new dynamics to the show. Plus, the seasons are connected in some way.
If American Horror Story is a show that interests you, check it out at 10 P.M. on FX. It’s sure to keep you on the edge of your seat.
