Election Season at PCSST!

It's election time at PCSST. As the halls are being filled with campaign posters of the 3 candidates the students are anticipate the big debate. The running candidates are 12th graders, Julissa Rojas and David Turner. For 11th grade we have Juan Miranda.

Rojas can be seen on the lanyards of many students in PCSST. She used buttons with a variety of designs that say vote for Julissa. When asked what inspired her to run for president, Julissa stated "The students of PCSST inspire me to run for president. I want to be the person who represents them to the fullest."

Turner has a variety of unique posters in the schools. The most liked poster he has posted around the school is the one that shows a hand and reveals a second hand extended to each grade level. The hands represent unity and what he will bring to the school as president. Turner stated that students don't have enough say. He continued to say that they (administration) want to make us good citizens, but we need to be careful that we do not become sheep. When asked about the changes he wishes to complete if he wins, Turner goes on to say "Unify the school! I want all grades to come together to get their issues across. Also, I wish to give a grace period for students to pay for their temporary ID's to make it fair for students who need to borrow a dollar from a friend."

Miranda is a different case altogether. Rather than using visuals to draw people to him, he goes by word of mouth. He advocates himself through conversation and is waiting for the debate to truly make his mark. Miranda states, "I have posters here and there, but my main focus is doing well in the debate. I want to do well where it really counts."

Many anticipate this debate to be a good one. It should be very close considering that Julissa has senior popularity, however, David Turner has a variety of grade levels in his camp which help him get the vote from each of the grade levels. Juan Miranda is expected to be good in debate, regardless of going up against two well known seniors here at PCSST, and he isn't backing down. The students vote for the candidate that they believe is strong enough to make change. In the lower level grades, the students vote for the people who will make change for every grade level. When asked on his thoughts of the student council 9th grader Eddie Cuba stated, "I hope whoever wins won't just make changes for one grade level only. That wouldn't be fair to the other grades." However, 12th grader Jahki Clarke stated, "I will most likely vote for Julissa or David because they are seniors like me! I just want to see who does the best out of them in the debate." It is evident that the upperclassmen base their voting on different reasons.
