What is Your Club?

PCSST is a great outlet for learning more in the academic sense, but what about in the recreational sense? PCSST supports extracurricular activities and possesses a vast list of clubs and afterschool programs for people with different interests. From board games, to fashion, to the thespian arts, our campus gives everyone an opportunity to express themselves in many ways.

For those who appreciate a more strategic and analytical spin on life, The Strategist’s League is a first stop. The club serves as an afterschool relaxation spot for those who like to wind down with their friends and enjoy a myriad of board and video games. Still, there is much to learn, despite the casual atmosphere. Mr. Parks, a co-leader, along with Mr. Leporino, individually state that this club fosters lateral thinking through these games. It helps members to create strategy and formulate or create unique ways to find solutions to problems in play as well as in life. “My plan for this club was and is to teach students to critically think,” states Mr. Leporino. “I want to see students who can approach schoolwork, or anything, for that matter, like they would a game.” Students who join the league leave with a better understanding of how teamwork benefits them, whether it is a cooperative effort, or a competitive event. The learning doesn’t seem to end even when it comes to recreational clubs at PCSST!

Our school is home to many academic lovers of the arts - all of our thespians can find a safe space in the Drama Club, run by Ms. Thomas. The club’s activities are comprised of studying plays throughout history, analyzing what they’re comprised of, and performing for their fellow members! Our school is full of talented students who are willing to flex their artistic muscles. They hope to set up a broadway musical provided funds can be allocated due to technical difficulties associated with the sound system. Yet, they still keep their heads high, contributing to the performing arts with their own expertise.

Fashion is a part of life that no one wants to be caught using incorrectly- especially in a school setting, where strutting your best stuff can be a part of what makes or breaks you socially. The Fashion Club serves as an outlet for those who enjoy delving into the fashionably exquisite, or are experienced in it themselves. Many members invest themselves into the club with many discussions and tutorials on how they spruce up their own look, whether it be with new hairstyles, improving on their makeup, or adding to the latest trends in clothing fashion. Yet, the purpose of the club extends further than that. “I want to promote fashion in a respectable way, and teach students not to conform to the social norms that would promote more visible skin and a skewed view of unattainable beauty that society presents,” said Mrs. Hoffman, the leader of the club. She is a perfect candidate for the club- having been a model in her past, she uses the club, not only to expand on a topic many enjoy, but to boost the self-confidence of others along with it. “There are people with so many different sizes and shapes in this world, that don’t feel like they’re accepted from a social standpoint - I created this club, not only because the students asked me too, but because I truly wanted to send a message, that these students should love themselves for who they are, despite whatever fashion they choose.”

Even though these are only a small number of clubs presented, the multitude of opportunities that exist for our students are too numerous to express all in one article. It’s up to the students to take it upon themselves to search for something they know they’ll enjoy. Try something new out because it may just be something new to love.
